The vision of Global Mobilization Ministries is to mobilize the Church, beginning from Uganda, to bless the nations.
The Anglican Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, issued the following challenges in his Charge to the Church of Uganda at his enthronement. We believe that Global Mobilization Ministries will be a strategic partner in helping the Church of Uganda live into this vision.
Archbishop Henry said,
“We need to recapture our missionary calling championed by Apollo Kivebulaya, the great missionary to the Congo, a vision later shared by the late Bishop Festo Kivengere. He was one of many I greatly admired and I try to emulate.
“We also can teach the Global Church passionate proclamation of the Gospel and Practical Faith. This Church pledges to stand firm on the Apostolic Faith where many Churches today lack confidence in the power of Jesus, which we take for granted here. Please humbly learn from us. At this time in the Anglican Communion, we are willing to take the leadership role to demonstrate that JESUS IS ALIVE.”
Cindy. Cindy is the US-based Administrator for GMM. She is a former banker who also worked more than ten years as the Administrator at her church in Southern California. She has served on their missions committee, and is also a member of the Board of Directors for SOMA/USA. She has been on many short-term mission trips, including Uganda, and is passionate about God’s mission in the world.
Alison Barfoot. Alison is the Director of Mission. In November 2003 she was called by Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, to serve as his Assistant for International Relations, a ministry she began in July 2004. Prior to that, she served as Associate Rector and then Co-Rector of Christ Church, Overland Park, Kansas, from 1997 – 2004.
Raised in Alexandria, Virginia, she received her Bachelor of Music Degree summa cum laude from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, in 1981, and her Master of Divinity degree in 1986 from Trinity School for Ministry, Ambridge, Pennsylvania. In 1999 she was awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte, NC. Between college and seminary, she was the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Stephen's School for Boys in Alexandria, VA. Prior to coming to Christ Church, she spent five years in parish ministry in Western Pennsylvania, four years as a part-time adjunct faculty member of Trinity School for Ministry, and six years planting a new church in Northern Virginia.
In addition to general parish ministry responsibilities at Christ Church, she was also responsible for local and international missions ministries. She pioneered Christ Church’s partnership with the Sudanese refugee community in Kansas City, established the Kansas City Sudan Support Network to raise awareness of the plight of southern Sudanese and to support them locally. She also helped Christ Church establish a partnership relationship with the Nebbi Diocese in Uganda and the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras. In these partnerships, Christ Church sent five to six teams a year and received teams of Ugandans and Hondurans in Overland Park each year. Christ Church also worked in partnership with a cluster of churches in Western Haiti. In February 2003 she was made a canon of Nebbi Diocese in Uganda.
Alison serves as an Advisor to the Board of Directors of SOMA (Sharing of Ministries Abroad), a short-term sending agency that is called to equip the Church for ministry through renewal in the Holy Spirit for the purpose of transforming individuals, churches, and communities. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for Trinity School for Ministry, and has helped carry the vision of Trinity as a Great Commission Seminary.
Marthe. Marthe is President of GMM's Board of Directors. She lives in Texas and works in her church's Mission Department. After Marthe was widowed, she began work on a PhD in Intercultural Educational Development and will graduate, God willing, in December 2007. In 2005 she spent six months in Uganda, conducting research for her dissertation. She has served on many Boards for non-profit organizations, loves the Lord, and has a passion for mission.
Marc. Marc has served as the Secretary of the board since GMM was founded. He is a regional sales manager for Johnson and Johnson pharmaceuticals. He is married to Sharon and they live in the Kansas City area. They have two sons and a daughter-in-law! Marc has been to Uganda many times.
Bill. Bill is the Treasurer of GMM. He and his wife, Judi, live in Los Angeles, California, and are involved in a new church plant. Bill and Judi have visited Uganda twice, and his interests are in the areas of leadership development. He has served in leadership roles on many boards, including the Red Cross, Rotary, and Trinity School for Ministry.
Pauline. Pauline worships in Fairfax, Virginia, and serves on the missions committee of her church. She is a retired systems analyst from the Federal Government and is taking advantage of the luxury of having time to pursue her love for mission and the extension of God's Kingdom. She has visited Uganda several times.
Wicks. Wicks and his wife, Pam, both have a Masters degree in Mission from Fuller Theological Seminary. After retiring as the managing partner of Wicks' law firm in southern California, Wicks and Pam went into full-time ministry, serving first at Trinity School for Ministry, and now on the staff of the Anglican Communion Network. Wicks and Pam are members of a church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and have also been to Uganda several times.
